45 shot, two fatally, in Easter weekend violence

Two boys were killed and at least forty three other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Easter holiday weekend.

Most recently, a man was shot to death at Two:39 a.m. Monday near a CTA Crimson Line station on the South Side. The 33-year-old victim was arguing with another masculine in the street in the two hundred block of West Garfield, when the masculine took out a handgun and fired numerous shots, according to Chicago Police.

Police originally said the shooting happened on the platform of the Garfield Station, but then later said the two fellows were instructed to leave CTA property by a CTA employee. They walked west on Garfield before the suspect opened fire. The man was shot in the head and chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at Trio:53 a.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His identity has not been released. Police said a 33-year-old man was in custody Monday evening and charges were pending in connection with the shooting.

At Two:27 a.m. Sunday, 23-year-old Tywan Anderson and a 19-year-old man were shot by another masculine while they were standing outside in the one thousand three hundred block of South Fairfield in the Douglas Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, authorities said. Anderson, whose home address was not known, suffered gunshot wounds to the head and back and was taken to Climb on Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at Two:57 a.m. The 19-year-old was shot in the left mitt and also taken to Climb on Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.

The weekend’s latest nonfatal shooting happened about 12:25 a.m. Monday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. A 40-year-old woman was standing with a group of people in a vacant lot in the three hundred block of South Kilbourn when she heard shots and felt ache, police said. She suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken in serious condition to Climb on Sinai Hospital.

Less than an hour earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. He was driving at 11:27 p.m. Sunday eastbound in the two thousand three hundred block of West 58th Street when a gray car pulled alongside his vehicle and someone inwards fired shots, striking him in both gams, police said. The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

At least forty other people were wounded in citywide shootings inbetween four p.m. Friday and six a.m. Monday. At least twenty four of those victims were shot inbetween five p.m. Saturday and six a.m. Easter Sunday. Last weekend, seven fellows were killed and at least twenty eight other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago.
