Possessor of stolen car uses app to track alleged car thief across Brisbane

A man has been charged over an alleged high-speed police pursuit across Brisbane in a stolen car after the vehicle’s holder tracked him through a wise phone app.

The proprietor of the stolen car was able to track the vehicle using an app to find the location of an iPad they had left inwards it, before advising police on its whereabouts.

Police said the car exited the tunnel at Bowen Hills and continued through Herson, at times on the wrong side of the road, before going over the William Jolly Bridge.

The driver eventually fled the car on foot after allegedly crashing into parked cars at the intersection of Logan Road and Deshon Street in Woollongabba, injuring a 52-year-old woman.

Another woman was allegedly assaulted as the man ran from the scene, chased by several bystanders.

The driver was then chased down and tackled by construction workers after attempting to flee the car on foot.

They eventually cornered the man on a nearby worksite where he was arrested by police.

A 21-year-old Murrarie man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, burglary and fraud.
