Best City Car of 2017: Honda Fit – NY Daily News

What is the best city car? The two thousand seventeen Honda Fit

Long on value, space, safety, more value, fit, and finish (and did we mention value?), Honda’s two thousand seventeen Fit lightly wins our Daily News Autos City Car award for the 2nd year in a row.

But the Fit is not only a do-it-all, versatile city car for singles and puny families. It’s screwed together well with far better than bargain-basement quality materials. Also, however it is petite, the two thousand seventeen Honda Fit garners a 5-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and excels with “Good” ratings in testing performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

If you’re looking for the flawless car for urban living, the Honda Fit is our top recommendation among city-sized cars.

But the most unique and meaningful thing about the Fit – especially for the puny car segment – is the configurable interior with phenomenal roominess. A low, vapid interior floor means the Fit offers greater passenger space and cargo volume than even some crossover SUVs.

Furthermore, Honda’s “magic seats” spin to create a tall, narrow space or fold plane to the floor to convert the car into a giant cargo cube. Thusly configured, almost fifty three cubic feet of space opens up clear of wheel wells and almost any other intrusion. This makes large, cumbersome objects far lighter to geyser and gives poetic credence to the car’s name.

An antsy 130-horsepower, 1.5-liter engine powers the Fit, driving the front wheels with a choice of either six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Fit is also downright joy to drive. Not that having joy scores high on the priority list of city car buyers, but this little fellow loves to zip around corners and zag through traffic. Plus, it is ridiculously effortless to park.

The two thousand seventeen Honda Fit starts at $16,965 for the base model including the required destination charge and can max out at just over $23,000 for every possible option on the highest EX-L trim level, which is decked out in leather, navigation, and more. But even at that price, the Fit fits into many budget levels.

Roomy and packed with practical utility, the Honda Fit boasts a spacious interior constructed of refined materials.

Despite providing the utility of a Swiss Army Knife, we realize you just might not be into the Honda Fit. If that’s the case, we’ve four extra petite, city-sized cars to recommend to you, and they’re listed below in alphabetical order.
